"A Taste of Hawaii in Palm Springs"
Who would believe that you could find an authentic Hawaiian food restaurant in the desert? As Hawaiiphiles we love just about everything about Hawaii. But we also love the desert, so having Hawaii in the Desert is a best-of-both-worlds treat. Years ago when we lived in Hawaii we had many native Hawaiian friends and we were often invited to real Hawaiian style Luau’s. We would look for and find small out of the way restaurants that served one or another Hawaiian dishes. Here in the desert at Hawaiian Bill’s we have found a mouth watering selection of many of the most tasty Hawaiian treats. If you have not had a taste of real, home made Hawaiian food then you are really missing something unique. Real Hawaiian food while infused with flavor influences of the orient, especially Chinese and Japanese and Korean, is very unique in its own right. Kalua Pig is slowly steamed for hours to be soft, and brimming over with favor, my mouth waters just talking about it. Huli Huli "turned over" chicken is slow roasted, then grilled, marinated in its own juice, until it is a taste delight. If you like ribs try the Pulehu ("Po Le O") grilled to perfection, moist and tasty.
Other taste treats include Shoyu Chicken, chicken thighs covered in Bill’s original Island flavor sauce then baked with the bone and skin to preserve natural flavor. Bill’s BBQ Boneless Beef, lightly basted with Bill’s "Distinctive Sauce" then grilled until it is red-brown, tender, lean and delicious. Boneless Salmon for you fish eater is "ono" (the Hawaiian word for "deeeelicious"). Bill’s BBQ Short Ribs are an "onolicious" delight. If you want a real Hawaiian treat start out with "Lomi lomi" minced salmon with tomatoes, onions and special seasonings, followed by lau lau’s, pork or chicken wrapped in taro leaf (similar to spinach) and cooked to a tender perfection in special larger leaves usually, Ti leaf. You probably won’t find these dishes anywhere but true Hawaiian homes or restaurants and they are gooood....And if you are really up for a mouth-watering extravaganza ask for a mixed plate or combination of Bill’s best, they will be glad to do this. You can’t help but love eating all of these great taste treats. Finally, for the true Hawaiiphils, the best poi east of the Hawaiian islands. Bill uses no MSG, only the best and tastiest ingredients.
The bar is extraordinary for luscious tropical drinks, beer and wine are also served. On beautiful desert nights you can sit out at the pool-side patio, watch the stars, talk story with friends, drink the tastiest drinks, eat the most delicious food from the islands. Friday and Saturday evenings enjoy live Hawaiian music by Dean Lining and Alika Kanekoa it doesn’t get any better.
Every 3rd Saturday, starting October 21, 2006 Bill holds a trueHawaiian luau. This is an "all you can eat" dinner accompanied by Hawaiian dancers and the Hawaiian duet of Dean and Alika. Their slack key guitar and island harmonies will bring you the true sounds and sights of Hawaii. The first hundred people to arrive at the luau get a real Hawaiian orchid lei and Mai tai. The night is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The price is $45.00 per person. Call 760-778-3850 for reservations. Come and get Lei’d Hawaiian style, then find out how to "Hang Loose."
Bill Ka’anoi learned his restauranteur trade and traditional Hawaiiandishes from his famous father, Charles "Charlie" Ka’anoi who was theLuau King of Hawaii. To Charlie luau was a labor of love and this is what the instilled in Bill. "Prepare great Hawaiian food and make people happy!"
